From junior accountant to company director – taxation advisor Joanna MacDonald is celebrating a rewarding and sometimes hectic 10 years at Haleys.

It is fair to say that as a 16-year-old school leaver accountancy and taxation were not high on Joanna’s list of future careers. But 2 weeks work experience and a subsequent 3-year AAT apprenticeship sparked a real interest in the sector.

Joanna joined Haleys as a junior accountant in 2011 and quickly found herself involved in other roles including business support and payroll. Although initially quite diverse this provided Joanna with a range of transferable skills and experience.

In 2015, the firm provided Joanna with an opportunity to move full time into the taxation services department and quickly realised that she had found her vocation in a role that suited her eye for detail and ability to form excellent working relationships with clients.

Haleys are committed to investing in and developing their team and Joanna gained professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).

I really enjoy working closely with clients, applying the knowledge that I have gained to provide specialist tax planning advice alongside ensuring the tax compliance services run smoothly.”

Director, head of taxation services and, Joanna’s mentor Michael Lucas said “Congratulations to Joanna on achieving this 10th anniversary with Haleys. I know she has worked hard for this, and I want to express my personal appreciation for Joanna’s achievement on her tax qualification and appointment as director. Loyal and dedicated employees are the foundation to any successful company, and I look forward to seeing all of the great things we know she will accomplish in the future”.

Outside of work Jo has been busy too! Getting married and setting up home with husband Andrew they are now the proud parents of 14-month-old Katie who Joanna credits for a slightly more relaxed attitude to work!

Well done Jo and thank you for all your hard work and enthusiasm!
